Renzo Frau founded Poltrona Frau, translated ‘Frau Armchair’ in 1912 with a commitment to producing high quality hand crafted furniture. The early designs produced by the company reflected the art deco styling emerging from France and the Victorian classic look from England. Many of these pieces remain in the collection today and are testament to Poltrona Frau’s Heritage and the importance placed upon the traditional art of furniture making. During this period, the company won several high profile commissions including the Royal family and was embraced by the film industry with several pieces being included in prominent movies of the time.
Over the last century Poltrona Frau has moved with the times and integrated modern materials and production techniques relying upon the expertise of several generations of furniture makers. The company’s contemporary product focus has always been respectful to the company’s heritage and promise to produce the highest quality products. The company will celebrate its centenary in 2012 and is proud to be ‘Made in Italy’.
Poltrona Frau’s expertise in furniture making is combined with a long history of producing leather. The company’s patented ‘Pelle Frau’ is the result of several years of experimentation into production of the finest quality full grain leather. ‘Pelle Frau’ goes through a 21 step tanning process which allows for a tactile warmth & softness while maintaining contract grade durability.
